JAVA OFFICERS – 2009-2011
JAVA Members at the January 17th 2009 luncheon elected a slate of officers for the 2009-2011 term. The Nominating Committee, chaired by Wade Ishimoto, canvassed the national membership for candidates and, subsequently, for approval of the slate. Following the vote by acclamation, Kevin Secor, Special Assistant to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs (left) conducted the swearing-in ceremony. Colonel Bruce Hollywood, USAF (Ret) Secretary (1st full term).
President. Bob Nakamoto, Chairman and principal owner of Base Technologies Inc., McLean, VA a 20 year old Information Technology company. Prior to that he was Director of Corporate System, MCI, Deputy Commissioner for Planning in Texas (Honorary Texas Citizen), and Director for Planning over Medicare and Medicaid Programs in the Federal Government. Previously, he was a manager of Data Processing for the Sate of California and Sacramento county. He has served on Presidential Task Force for both parties. He was born in California and graduated from California State University and is a Veteran of the Korean War. He is a life member of the Japanese American Veterans Association (currently serving as President), American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Armed Forces Electronic Association. Also, he is a member of Business Executives for National Security, Intelligent Transportation Society, Health Financial Management, Japanese American Citizen League, and the Chamber of Commerce.
Vice President. LTC Martin L. Herbert, USA (Ret), consultant, Booz Allen Hamilton, received his Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Louisville and his Masters in Human Resource Development from Webster University. Prior to joining Booz Allen, Marty served twenty years in the Army as an Infantry and multi-functional Logistical Officer. He specialized in tactical operations, supply distribution, direct support maintenance, transportation, and medical support.. He currently leads the Army Materiel Command Lessons Learned team. He served with distinction during the 1991 Persian Gulf War, September 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon and conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Awarded two Bronze Star Medals for actions in combat. Escorted and briefed President George H. W. Bush during historic visit to Vietnam. Selected and promoted to Lieutenant Colonel one year ahead of his peers (top 4%). Selected to attend Executive Military Leadership School (War College).
Treasurer. LTC Earl S. Takeguchi, USA (Ret), a native of Hawaii, began his military career following graduation from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. He attended Basic Training and Infantry Advanced Individual Training before attending Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. His assignments included tours in duty in Germany and Korea with Army Signal units. He served in the Recruiting Command as an Area Commander in San Francisco and also served with the Corps of Engineers as a project engineer. His last assignment was at the Pentagon with the Office of Director of Information Systems for Command, Control, Communications and Computers. He was tasked to organize and lead a special team to resolve, develop and implement a spectrum management system to support the Army Central Command and U.S. Central Command for Desert Shield/Storm. He currently works as a Systems Engineer supporting DoD.
Secretary. Col Bruce Hollywood, USAF (Ret) is a Senior Military Analyst in the Interagency Plans Branch on the Joint Staff. In this position, he is responsible for working to help craft a unified US Government approach to many of our National Challenges. Prior to his current position, Bruce had a distinguished 21 year career in the Air Force as a Space and Missile officer. He served in numerous operational positions including Operations Officer for the 3d Space Operations Squadron and Command of the 320th Missile Squadron. His staff assignments included Space-Based Warning Chief at Air Force Space Command, Deputy Chief of the Space Launch Division on the Air Staff, and Chief of the Strategic Planning Branch on the Joint Staff. Col Hollywood is a graduate of Air Force Command and Staff College, US Army Command and General Staff College, and The Air War College.
