Harry H. Tanabe Resident of San Lorenzo Harry Harushi Tanabe passed away peacefully on April 19, 2009 at the Georgetown University Hospital in Washington D.C. , at the age of 86. Harry was born April 12, 1923 in Marysville, California, the fifth child of Yoshijiro and Asano Tanabe. Harry is survived by his wife Miyako, children Christine (Russ) Burdick, Dave (Noryne), Brian (Pandora), Elaine (Dicky) Yamamoto, Andy and Kathleen (John) Kelley and step-daughter Miyako (Steve) Schanely. He is also survived by grandchildren Mathew, Tami, Nathan, Nicholas, Yoshi, Sam, Bradley, Corey, Elise, Kevin, Brett and Makayla. Harry is preceded in death by his first wife Shizue. Harry is survived by sisters Ruby Suzuki, Helen Hamasu and by brothers Tom and Roy. He is preceded in death by his sister Jane Otsuji, and by his brothers James and Norman. Harry served bravely in WWII. His specialty was Counter Intelligence and he received the American Theater Ribbon, the Victory Medal, the Army of Occupation (Japan) Medal and the Purple Heart. He reached the rank of Warrant Officer Junior Grade. He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Golden Gate Nisei Memorial Post 9879. Memorial services will be held at the Berkeley Methodist Unified Church, 1710 Carleton St. in Berkeley, on Saturday May 2, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Surviving are: Christine (Russ) Burdick, Dave (Noryne) Tanabe, 35863119 – CIC (Counterintelligence Corps)
